DiSC profiling is an assessment tool used to identify behavioural style by measuring attributes or qualities of a person and aspects of his or her personality. DISC is the universal language of observable human behavior, or “how we act”. DISC does not measure education, experience, values or intelligence. It simply measures an individual’s behaviours, or how they communicate.

The Application of DISC

With the knowledge of DISC, you can learn to understand and appreciate your behaviour style, and then adapt your style in communication with others. In fact, you can change the golden rule. Rather than treating others as you would want to be treated, you can treat others the way they want to be treated.

How DiSC is Measured

3CM's DiSC assessment accurately measures four dimensions of behaviour, and its the acronym which are each associated with a behavioural style:

  • How you respond to problems and challenges >>> Dominance >>> direct, results oriented, strong willed and forceful
  • How you influence others to your point of view >>> Influence >>> outgoing, enthusiastic, optimistic and lively
  • How you respond to the pace of others >>> Steadiness >>> even-tempered, accommodating, patient and humble
  • How you respond to rules and procedures >>> Conscientiousness >>> analytical, reserved, precise, and systematic

Based on a research conducted by William Marston Ph.D. (1873-1947), it examines the behaviour of 'normal' people in their environment or within a specific situation. By understanding what your DiSC profile is, you will be able to identify whether your 'normal' style of behaviour produce a positive result on a given situation, or whether you need to adapt another style to be more successful in that particular scenario.
