Why coach?
Coaching at work is a conversation, a way of relating aimed at encouraging staff to enhance their performance. It revolves around a collaborative relationship between a staff member and a manager/supervisor. The role of the manager/supervisor as coach is not limited to corrective or remedial coaching for performance deficits. The manager/supervisor’s role also involves guiding, encouraging and enhancing the top performers as well as career coaching.
Coaching may include:
- Learning arrangements requiring immediate interaction and feedback
- On-the-job instruction and 'buddy' system
