Skills Recognition

3CM`s Skills Recognition

[Smart, yet Simple…Simple, yet Smart]

Where do you stand?

Skills Recognition or recognition of prior learning (RPL) is an important assessment process and it`s often confused and misunderstood. It is not relevant how or where the learner developed the knowledge or skill, as long as they can do what is required.  A person may have developed the required knowledge and skills simply through experience, a combination of short courses, from their father or mother, brother or sister.  As long as a person can meet the required current competency one should not be concerned about how they developed it.  Additionally, it is a waste of resources to require people to sit through formal programmes of study of things they already know and do.  Skills recognition is therefore a formal process of recognition of the learning that people have done through means other than formal accredited programmes.
Like many people today, you may have worked your way up to the position you now hold.

In doing this work, you have probably gained a great deal of competence as a manager, assessor or trainer but you may not hold any qualifications for these skills. This means it may be more difficult for you to demonstrate that you actually have these skills if you do go for a promotion or get a new job.
If this is the case, you need a way to get the qualifications you deserve without doing another training course.
Consider this…
There are two ways to learn things:
• By doing them on the job and learning as you go, or
• By being taught them in a formal course.

How do I know if it is for me?
 If…

• You are already a competent and confident professional employee, skilled tradesperson and/or business owner

• You have experience in your industry or field
• You would like to earn the qualifications, or

• You would like to help guide others through the process

Then 3CM Skills Recognition is for you.

A fresh approach to Skills Recognition

Our new, streamlined approach to RPL assessment is making easier for people to gain formal qualifications or units of competency.  The recognition model involves four stages:
1.     A candidate self-assessment, where they evaluate and
2.      Interview with an assessor, where they are asked questions relating to  their work experience, and
3.      Demonstration of skills and knowledge by completing practical tasks, and
4.      The provision of further supporting evidence, such as reports from employers and supervisors, to confirm they have shown competence over a period of time and can work in different situations under different conditions
Candidates are encouraged to demonstrate their skills and knowledge rather than submit a large amount of written evidence.
