This programme aims to provide a vital introduction and synopsis of Risk Management as part of the Strategic OHS Risk Management Plan. People are becoming aware of their responsibility as managers for the health and safety of their employees or people who may be contracted into their workplace.
Each manager is obliged to identify the OHS issues relating to their workplace, and identify with legislation that pertains to the organisation and the implications and consequences if not adhered to.
Learning Objectives
To give managers, supervisors, and team leaders the extended knowledge and skills to effectively perform their OHS accountabilities and responsibilities under the appropriate legislation. The ultimate objective is to assist in improving safety and health in Western Australian workplaces. The programme will assist managers, supervisors and team leaders develop a total Business Risk Management Plan incorporating OHS risks.
Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate competency in the skills and knowledge necessary to establish the framework for OHS systems
- Apply Strategic Management principles to OHS as part of the overall Business risk Management Plan
- Develop a process for evaluating an organisation's Business Risk Management Plan in relation to OHS systems, policies, procedures and programmes
- Develop a process for monitoring an effective Business Risk Management Plan incorporating OHS Risks.

Requirements to Receive the Qualification
By successfully completing the face-to-face workshop and assessment requirements of this unit of competence from the OHS Programme, or apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Participants can achieve the nationally recognised qualification with either or combination of both approachs. RPL is a process that enables those who are interested in gaining the qualification to be granted exemption from some or all of the training programmes.
Learning Strategy
Students will take part in a highly interactive project forum, with group discussion and collaborative research for maximum impact and learning. The DiSC behavioural profiling is used in relation to strengths and challenges. This is followed up with 4 half day project forums for students to work on their projects and receive feedback from an Assessor. Projects are linked to the organisation’s strategic themes and core values, making them applied to real situations, rather than theory and textbook.
