Purpose

The Certificate IV qualifies individuals who apply broad range of specialised knowledge and skills in varied contexts to undertake skilled work and as pathway for further learning.

Overview

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who take the first line of management in a wide range of organisational and industry contexts. They may have existing qualifications and technical skills in any given vocation or profession, yet require skills or recognition in supervisory functions. Typically they would report to a manager.

At this level Frontline Managers provide leadership and guidance to others and take responsibility for the effective functioning and performance of the team and its work outcomes.

  • Communicate effectively as a workplace leader, including the context, choosing methods of communication to suit the audience, and following up.
  • Use leadership to promote team cohesion, including motivating, mentoring, coaching and developing the team and forming the bridge between the management of the organisation and team members.
  • Plan and supervise the performance of the team and develop team cohesion.

OPERATIONAL LEADERSHIP

  • Frontline managers have a strong influence on the work culture, values and ethics of the teams they supervise. As such it is important that frontline mangers model good practice, professionalism and confidently represent their organisation.
  • The skills and knowledge required to implement the operational plan by monitoring and adjusting operational performance, planning and acquiring resources and providing reports on performance as required.
  • It applies to individuals who plan activities to achieve the measurable, stated objectives of the team and the organisation. At this level work will normally be carried out within routine and non-routine methods and procedures which require planning, evaluation, leadership and guidance of others.

RISK & SAFETY

  • Implement and monitor an organisation’s work health and safety (WHS) policies, procedures and programs in the relevant work area to meet legislative requirements.
  • Identify risks and to apply established risk management processes to a defined area of operations that are within the responsibilities and obligations of the role.

INTRODUCTION TO PROJECT LEADERSHIP

Prepare, deliver and review a presentation to a target audience for a range of purposes, such as marketing, training and promotions.

Be clear and solely responsible for the management and leadership of a complex project, either as an employee of an organisation or as an external consultant.

DEVELOPING PEOPLE & TEAMS

  • Establish and develop a professional mentoring relationship with a learner. It includes establishing the need for mentoring, developing a mentoring plan/framework, facilitating and monitoring the mentoring relationship, and evaluating the effectiveness of mentoring.
  • Determining individual and team development needs and to facilitate the development of the workgroup is also part of the programme.

Assessment requirement

It is important to note that 3CM adopts a number of assessments instruments that are designed to best suit your course and the knowledge and skills that is required to be demonstrated by each participant. All assessments are identified clearly in our Student's Course Handbook which are provided to students upon enrolment. The Learner Guides provides details on the timing and style of assessment. It is important to note that participants need to demonstrate competency through each of the prescribed assessment items throughout your time enrolled in the course. Pre requisites

There are no entry requirements for the Certificate IV in Leadership and Management qualification.

Pathways into the qualification

Preferred pathways for candidates considering this qualification include:

BSB31207 Certificate III in Frontline Management or other relevant qualification/s
OR

with vocational experience in a supervisory role but no formal qualification.

This breadth of expertise would equate to the competencies required to undertake this qualification.

Pathways from the qualification

After achieving this qualification candidates may undertake:

the BSB52015 Diploma of Leadership and Management.

Requirements to receive this national qualification

The Certificate IV in Leadership and Management qualification requires participants to successfully complete 4 core units plus 8 elective units.

By successfully completing the face-to-face workshops and assessment requirements of the Certificate IV in Leadership and Management Programme, or apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Participants can achieve the nationally recognised qualification with either or combination of both approaches.  RPL is a process that enables those who are interested in gaining the qualification to be granted exemption from some or all of the training programmes.
